Homeland series goes far and wide to demonstrate this war has no good guys. CIA agents are portrayed more often than not, like psychopaths or sociopaths. The killers are shown as heroes. The downside is that a series that discusses homeland security still manages to go so far to be “politically correct” that it shows Islamic Jihads as people, rather than what they are. On the other hand, it shows corrupt politicians in a realistic light, and indirectly quotes George Carlin who said that taking out the lawyers and bankers who launder drug money is much more efficient than taking out street dealers. Special effects are good but uncommon. Which is another aspect of a well built series. The plot is so interesting you can hardly wait for the next episode. However, the episodes themselves are a bit too long. This show is a grade of A with a heavy heart, given all of the aforementioned comments. It’s considered to be worth watching regardless of it’s agenda.
Homeland is really a great TV series. At each level it works and the critical aspect of my brain can only stop finding something to criticize. First, the program deals with the subject of terrorism in a very mature way, there is no ideology behind the script and every perspective is treated fairly. The characters have a real depth rarely seen on the screen that is backed by a lot of very solid acting. In fact, the conflicting elements to the central characters that makes the show so unlikely would be eliminated without actors of the caliber of Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin (also particular praise to the daughter played by Morgan Saylor – one To keep in mind in the future). Not only do you watch these characters go through some really strange and tense circumstances, you also feel it. The story also has a depth and complexity that has only been seen in shows like The Wire, Lost, The Sopranos and Generation Kill. There are no plot holes that distract from the narrative often quite tense and despite what you think of the subject in general I would be surprised if this program does not totally suck in. This is a very real, well thought out and well executed. Two big thumbs for everyone involved.
