There were five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the flag of the United States Marine photographed Mount Suribachi by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945. “Flags of Our Fathers” is the story of three of the six surviving soldiers, John “Doc” Bradley, Pvt. Rene Gagnon, and Pvt. Ira Hayes, who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima taking. “Flags of Our Fathers” is the point of Eastwood diptych in the battle of Iwo Jima America; the other is “Letters from Iwo Jima,” which tells the same story from the Japanese point of view.
