Midnight Special is a Science fiction chase movie that owes not a little to Spielberg especially ET and Close Encounters. The young actor playing Roy is good in the role showing a maturity beyond his years whilst Joel Edgerton, last seen in Black Mass, spends the whole movie looking perplexed. Ultimately it lacks any emotional connection and the ending is rather trite. One for a rainy day. Very interesting film, but incredibly confusing. This film doesn’t explain much, although that is kind of the appeal of it. It doesn’t show you how the story begins,or even really how it ends, just the middle. But again, this works. There’s just enough story, enough exposition, and enough action, rather than inundating the audience with any of the three. Worth checking out, but just expect to finish watching the movie left with more questions than answers.
